I had the honor of speaking alongside Councilmember Nieuwenhuis and Councilmember Bhargava at the inaugural Washington State Martial Arts Festival at Crossroads Park. The event brought together families, students, and martial arts enthusiasts from across the region to celebrate both the artistry and the discipline that define these timeless traditions.
Hosted by the Seattle Shaolin Kungfu Academy and supported by several dedicated community partners, the festival shone a spotlight on the deep cultural roots of martial arts within Asian heritage. Through vibrant demonstrations, interactive lessons, and inspiring performances, attendees were able to experience firsthand how martial arts foster discipline, health, respect, and a strong sense of community.
It was truly heartening to see so many people from young students to lifelong practitioners come together to share their passion and cultural pride. Events like this remind us that our community is strongest when we celebrate our diversity and learn from one another.
A sincere thank-you to everyone who helped make this festival possible and to those who continue to uplift and preserve the rich traditions of Asian culture here in Washington State. I look forward to seeing this festival grow in the years to come!
